Red Dwarf fans had been begging the BBC and Garnt Naylor Productions for the Red Dwarf series on DVD. It didn't look like it was going to happen, until on 19th April 2002, RedDwarf.co.uk finaly announced their plans to bring Red Dwarf out on DVD. The fans would get a lot more than they had ever expected, each series was to get it's own 2-disc set cramped full of never-before-seen special features.

  1. How many discs will each series consist of?
    Each Series is released as a two disc set. Disc one for all six/eight episodes, and disc two crammed full of Special Features.

  2. What Special Features does each series contain?
    Each Series contains a wide range of different special features. Each series contains their own Audio Commentary from the cast, Image Galleries, Deleted Scenes, Smeg Ups, Music Cues, Featurettes, Trailers and much more. For a complete list of special features for each Series, click here.

  3. Do the DVDs have any Easter Eggs?
    Each Series has at least one Easter Egg. The Series One DVD contains two Easter Eggs, Series Two contains just one Easter Egg, Series Three and Four contain three Easter Eggs. As to their location, you can find them yourself you lazy smegger! Nah I'll be kind, you can find them here.

  4. Will the DVDs be released worldwide?
    The DVDs are released in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and Japan. The Japanese fans luckily already have each Series on DVD, however the sets come with limited Special Features.

  6. What rating will each series be certified?
    The BBC are looking for a 12 rating or lower for the UK release of the DVD. This was evident from them getting the 15-rated episode Marooned recertified by the BBFC for the DVD release.

  7. What does the cover art for the DVDs look like?
    There are slight variations between each country's release, however the UK, Australian and American releases follow the same location pattern. Series I was designed from Red Dwarf, Series II from Blue Midget, Series III from Starbug, IV from the Officer's Quarters. Series V will be the SSS Esperanto, and Series VI from the Last Chance Saloon.
